DEANE OGDEN is an American record producer, session and touring drummer, songwriter, recording artist, and artist developer whose sonic approach has been described as “a well-established aesthetic of evocative world textures and compelling pristine pop rhythms" (The Village Voice). In 2016, MusicRadar.com listed Deane among "ten emerging industry leaders to watch", calling him “an innovative force and productive voice of reason among a quagmire of jaded dissenters”. A fierce advocate for creative artists, Deane has been called “an underrated voice in the music community” and someone who “understands the inside baseball of the business better than anybody.” (iTunes)

RECORDING ARTIST

Deane’s 2013 solo debut Eastern Chronicle is an 118-minute odyssey through the sounds and cultures of the Asian Crescent. To record and produce Eastern Chronicle, Deane spent eight months traveling deep into Japan, China, Nepal, Tibet, Indonesia, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka using a stripped-down mobile recording rig stuffed into an Eiger backpack. The album debuted at #13 on the iTunes world music chart.

Utilizing the same recording methods, Deane released his 2015 follow-up, Kwela, written and recorded in the vibrant and wondrous landscape of South Africa. Regarding the title track (released as a standalone single June 15, 2014), one critic declared Kwela “a rapturous celebration of the colorful sounds and cultures of South Africa combined with Deane’s modern funk underpinnings and pop-oriented songwriting.”

Kwela was released physically August 4, 2015, in Africa, France, Japan, North and South America, Asia, and the United Kingdom. It was released digitally worldwide five days later. The album debuted at #1 on the iTunes pop chart in South Africa and went to #2 on the iTunes overall world chart within five weeks.
