Questions, Opinions and Riffs: Episode 001

Here is the first video in my “QOR” series — that’s “Questions, Opinions and Riffs” because I really don’t have “answers” that will work across the board for everyone, so instead, I’m offerring my educated opinion on some of the issues people are emailing me about lately. Hopefully some of what works for me will also work for you, too.

All of this is an effort to annihilate my inbox which gets flooded with queries about everything from what drums I use to what I think about the music business to how I set-up my DAW in Logic to which Charlie’s Angel I had the biggest crush on as a kid…. and everything in between!

GOT QUESTIONS?

If you have something you are wondering about that you think I might have something to say on, send it. You never know. It will likely end up in a future episode. Go to the CONTACT page and let ‘er rip!

IN THIS FIRST EPISODE

  1. As a composer, do I need a “team”?
  2. Which “team members” are most important when you are first starting out?
  3. How do you move seamlessly from style to style in your work?

Thanks, this is a very concise and well-written summary.  For the first time I actually have a sense of how this complicated sound library actually works!

Thanks! I’m glad you like the article. VI Pro at first really has a steep learning curve, but this is mainly because it just works completely different from any other sampler. Once you’ve got your brain wrapped around it, its a joy to use!

    Hi Tobias,
Excellent! This article brings new light to me.

I’m still puzzled, on how to import sequences inside the new sequencer (the folder’s empty).
Paul from VSL said,  I have to save a couple to be able to load them… (I know that) :)
I would like to access the sequences that come with the new factory presets… (Yes, I’ve load them too).

Thanks for these marvelous reference pages!

      Hi Jorge,
nice to see you here and thank you!

You should have an “open” button at the top of the sequencer view. Click the Sequencer button left of the Basic view button and then you should see it.

The factory sequences are loaded automatically when you open any of the matrixes, just activate the cells (double-click) and use the keyswitches to switch between sequences.

    Hi Tobias,
Thanks again mate, I did what you’ve told me and it works!

I’ll let you know when I explore it more.
