The Hit List

My score for Sony Pictures’ actioner The Hit List, starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Cole Hauser and Jonathan LaPaglia, was recorded in late 2010. The film was released on DVD and Blu-Ray on May 10, 2011.

The experience was awesome… and different from normal. I wrote and orchestrated the entire score in LA at the  [slider title="Musicave"]The Musicave is the studio space where I write all of my music. The actual Musicave is located in Los Angeles, California. The term ‘Musicave’ might also refer, however, to locales such as Bali, New York, Osaka, or Buenos Aires. I’m prone to running off with my mobile rig to one of these favorite places when intensive focus on a creative project is necessary.[/slider] and then sent the orchestral sections over to Sydney, Australia to be recorded there. This was my first time recording a score at a remote location without being on-site to supervise the process—a huge testament to how the film scoring process is rapidly becoming more and more of a global one as opposed to an exclusively localized one.

With lots of thrills and spills, crashes and explosions, the score to The Hit List was a ton of fun to write and produce. I’ll be expanding this entry soon with stories and expanded details on its creation. For now, some selected excerpts from the score can be heard on the Music page.

EASTERN CHRONICLE is my new album that is available worldwide on T-ABC Records. You can download it here on the website in any uncompressed format you can think of. You can also get it in AAC format from iTunes, on MP3 from Amazon.com and in various formats on just about every digital carrier that is out there including Spotify and MOG. If a physical copy is more your speed, the CD is available at retailers throughout Asia and North America.

[...] The Hit List came about for me in a very interesting way. My friend William Kaufman was hired to direct the film for Sony Pictures and wanted me to compose the score from the first day he started shooting. He contacted me to start the process in motion and make the deal with the producers, and after reading Chad and Evan Law’s script, I couldn’t wait to get started. Will and I had worked together on a few other projects before, so I knew it was going to be an incredibly thrilling ride, complete with all of the action-sequence mayhem a person could handle in 90 minutes.
